AIOps

Operational practice (IT)

AI for IT operations

AIOps (Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations) is the use of AI and machine learning to automate and improve IT operations: anomaly detection, event correlation, root-cause analysis and incident response. It is a legacy term focused on infrastructure, not business agents.

Coined by Gartner, it describes how AI helps IT teams handle monitoring noise and speed up incident resolution. It creates ambiguity against 'agent ops' because they share a root, but its scope is systems stability, not the operation of autonomous business agents.

How it differs from

AI Operations
AI Operations operates AI in the business; AIOps automates the running of IT
AgenticOps
AIOps alerts and recommends; AgenticOps acts autonomously

Examples

  • Correlating thousands of monitoring alerts into a single actionable incident
  • Predicting server saturation before it causes an outage

FAQ
