Agentic commerce

comercio

agent-led commerce

Agentic commerce is buying and selling in which AI agents search, compare, or even decide and pay on behalf of a person or a company.

Implementa formulation. It changes who arrives at the shop: besides people, agents arrive reading product, price and availability data. A FHNW survey of 473 online-shop operators (mostly Swiss) finds 10% already treat it as a revenue channel, 75% expect agents to handle product search, 32% purchase decisions and 22% the entire purchase; nearly three quarters have no strategy. The sample is concentrated in Switzerland.

How it differs from

Classic e-commerce
In classic e-commerce a person browses and buys; in agentic commerce an agent may decide.
Support chatbot
A chatbot answers the shop customer; a buying agent acts for the customer toward the shop.

Examples

  • An assistant that compares prices across three shops and proposes the purchase to its user.
  • A corporate buying agent that restocks office supplies within an approved limit.
