AI Governance Manager
RoleAI Governance Lead · AI Compliance Manager
Function that sets and enforces the framework under which an organisation deploys AI: approval, documentation, risk assessment and ongoing supervision. Not the DPO, who protects personal data, nor the generalist Compliance Officer: its object is the AI system and its lifecycle.
Confusing the three functions gets expensive on inspection day, because each answers for a different object. The DPO answers for personal data; the Compliance Officer for the organisation's general regulatory framework; the AI Governance Manager for the AI system lifecycle: what gets approved, on what evidence, who documents it and who answers when it fails. The material obligation stems from the EU AI Act high-risk regime, and Article 10 — governance of training, validation and testing data — is what turns practice into obligation. Delimiting by supervised object is Implementa's own editorial formulation. The salary range is country-dependent and is not published here.
How it differs from
- DPO
- The DPO protects personal data; the AI Governance Manager supervises the whole AI system, personal data or not.
- Compliance Officer
- Compliance covers the organisation's whole regulatory framework; here the object is the AI system lifecycle.
Examples
- Whoever maintains each system's risk classification and the evidence behind it.
- Whoever rules that a high-risk deployment does not ship until the Article 10 documentation exists.
FAQ
- Can it be the same person as the DPO?
- It can, in small organisations, but keep the decision records separate: the supervised object and the required evidence differ.
- Since when is it mandatory?
- The material obligation comes from the EU AI Act high-risk regime; Article 10 sets the data governance requirements.
